Strijboshof Municipal Park

Strijboshof Municipal Park (roughly 4 ha) is located at Achterbroeksteenweg 69. The grounds of the estate were developed to become the site of a country house at the end of the previous century. Trees were planted in peaty soil in phases, while open areas were created according to the 18th century tradition of the English Romantic landscaping style. As the entire process was always non-intensive, the vegetation was allowed to develop into an outstanding and impressive forest park. Nearly entirely enclosed by pasture land, the area has become a refuge for many plants and animals in recent years. The park also offers shade and protection from high temperatures. The former Belgrano villa has been converted into a tavern/reception room (www.strijboshof.be).

Working together with various nature guides, the municipal authority has marked out an educational hiking trail in Strijboshof Municipal Park. The brochurethat accompanies this tour is available free of charge from the tourist and environment department.

Playing on Amoras Island

The municipal authority has created a fairytale playground between the park lake and the bistro. Children aged 2 to 10 can romp around to their heart’s content on Amoras Island, a playground with a playful reference to the cartoon characters Suske and Wiske. Children may play in the recreation area free of charge. Drinks and snacks can be bought from the tavern (entrance via the terrace located higher up). A petanque pitch is available for all of you boules enthusiasts
